Toyota informs U.S. dealers to reveal future Takata recalls

Toyota Motor stated on Friday it had informed its U.S. dealers to disclose the identity of automobiles with defective Takata air bag inflators that will undergo recalls by 2018.

Following the criticism by members of Congress, the company revealed a list of cars with inflators based on future recalls. They include the 2016 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX460 still in production. Dealerships may likewise have in stock new 2015 Lexus IS250C/350C and Scion xB, and the 2015 Lexus GX460 and Toyota 4Runner, the automaker stated.

Takata inflators can blow up with extreme force and spray metal shrapnel. They are presumed to have caused 13 deaths around the world and over 100 injuries.

Last month, Takata accepted it as faulty, by 2019, another 35 million to 40 million U.S. inflators that lack drying agents in frontal air bags. To this day, 15 automakers have actually revealed recalls of about 16.4 million cars and nearly 100 million inflators have actually been stated malfunctioning.
