There have been quite a few teaser photos of the Aventador or Jota from Lamborghini in the past few months. This is the proposed names of the replacement car that Lamborghini is considering for their Murcielago. The new model is expected to make it to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show event.
The car is fitted with a 6.5 liter V12 engine which delivers 700 HP. The suspension of the car is derived from the Formula 1 design. The monocoque is built with carbon fiber reinforced polymer, but not much other detail is available on this aspect.
The monocoque is in reality an assembly of individual parts and not a single shell structure as has been touted.
Carbon fiber has the advantage of durability while being light in weight. Performance cars therefore rely heavily on this material in their making. The monocoque in case of the Murcielago weighs only 14.5 kg or 324 lbs and has high torsional rigidity.
The car has been built using three different types of carbon fiber material. To add stiffness to the build epoxy foam pieces have been used in the monocoque. To connect the front and rear sub-frame elements aluminum inserts have been used.
Lamborghini have used totally in-house engineering expertise to build this complex structure. By this process they have had complete control over each specific bit of the car’s build up process.
