Mazda Motor on Thursday stated it planned to recall around 640,000 vehicles worldwide to resolve issues including a problem with the valve springs used in its diesel engines.
The Japanese automaker stated it would recall around 230,000 vehicles at home and an estimated of 410,000 units in overseas markets, except the United States, where Mazda does not sell diesel models.
Mazda’s recall comes following domestic rival Subaru earlier week stated it would recall 400,000 vehicles worldwide to repair a design flaw in the valve springs used in its engines, expenses for which would eat into the automaker’s full-year profit.
Japanese automakers are observing a rise in quality issues varying from faulty components to testing misconduct, which are boosting costs and raising concerns about quality controls.
