McLaren held a separate display of the production-ready P1 in California where detailed information was revealed about the supercar.
It will have a similar carbon tub like the MP4-12C, with front and rear aluminum structures developed for crash protection. The P1’s body section is made from carbon fiber, while most of the exposed metal is built from titanium alloy, including the mesh vents. McLaren‘s is estimating a reduced weight of 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs).
Most probably the production version of McLaren P1 will use the same V8 3.8-liter engine as the MP4-12C but will give an output of approximately 800 hp (596 kW).
An KERS system is expected to add more horsepower, while an AWD system through a front axle electric propulsion system is not ruled out.
The McLaren P1 is set to compete with the Ferrari F150. The P1 is aiming to be the fastest production car on the Nürburgring race circuit.
Production will be restricted to 500 units and will start later this year. The price for the P1 starts at 1.2M USD.
The data related to performance, and other specifications is still premature but more will be revealed soon once the production starts.
