Mercedes-Benz devised a revolutionary plan in 1936 to create the very first diesel car the 260 D model. Over the many decades the German manufacturer has developed more fuel efficient and high performance engines. They reached new heights with the amazing C111-III and C111-II D models. And now the new Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 CDI is the latest car model equipped with a diesel engine to meet the power needs.
It is generally not preferred to have diesel engines power sports cars. The new Mercedes SLK 250 CDI however defies this trend and takes a big step forward. As we all know diesel engines are economical and save a lot of fuel. The 2.2 liter displacement diesel unit in SLK 250 can produce a power output of 204 horsepower (150 kW) at a decent mileage of 4.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. The 2.2 diesel engine is also capable of producing 500 N-m of torque which accounts for the acceleration potential of the SLK 250.
The car exterior sports a decent design but nothing striking. A panoramic vario-roof is also provided with the SLK 500 with optional MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The interior also has been improved and is filled with lots of standard amazing features.
The SLK 500 can attain a maximum speed of 150 miles per hour or 243 kilometers per hour and accelerates quickly from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds. The Mercedes SLK features a 7G-tronic Plus transmission allowing the car to go to 120 from 80 km/h in just 4.3 seconds which is amazing.
Mercedes-Benz has employed many innovative technologies to improve the power, efficiency and emissions of the diesel engine including the standard ECO start/stop system. They have also provided precise fuel injectors and two-stage turbochargers to improve engine efficiency.
