Mercedes is currently working at the upgrade of performance of the SLS supercar, with the final result expected to be unveiled in 2013. The car is expected to be marketed as an AMG Black Series vehicle, having more power and being more light, which means way different compared with the “standard” SLS.
The car will use an enhanced version of the vehicle’s current 6.2 liter powerplant, without being bothered by the forced induction 5.5 liter V8 which will replace the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 unit on the rest of the upcoming AMG models.
The original engine offers 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, but the upgraded one is expected to exceed 600 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque as it will use modifications like a larger intake manifold, higher compression ratio, high performance camshafts and others.
“We’re not at the limit with what’s out there the moment. There’s still a good deal more to come from the engine,” says AMG engine boss Friedrich Eichler “We’re saving the best until last.”
The Black Series will lose at least 50 kg, which means it should be able to
bring it’s 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time somewhere in the under 3.5 seconds area (the SLS AMG needs 3.8 s to get to 62mph), while raising its top speed by 13 mph(21km/h) to 208 mph(332 km/h). But of course, all the modifications and all the obvious enhancements shall bring an almost 50% raise of the price, compared with the original version.
