Even though we are yet to have a view of the world outside from behind the steering wheel of the Porsche Boxster Spyder, the things that can still be stated with a fair degree of surety is that it is by far the most correct direction that Porsche has taken. There are indication also that soon there would be another better and faster option named the 911 Speedster from Porsche.
There are reports though that there is a new 911 Speedster that is in the making though there is no official confirmation from Porsche. The report also claims there will be just 100 units of the new 911 Speedster that will be ever made, which if true will be 800 units lesser by number than the original 911 Speedster manufactred in 1989.
The original Porsche 911 Speedster supported a regular 964 911 sheet metal or else had a wider Turbo body. It had a low windscreen and had a manually operated hard-covered soft top. Also, there were many ideas picked up from the Turbo Kit which included the brakes as well. That car was in production for only a few months in the middle of 1989. The present one would have a modern look even though it may pick up some perspective from the previous models.
There is a possibility that the running gear and the power would be drawn from the standard Carrera S. The engine would most probably be the same 3.8 liter boxer six delivering 402 hp which is fitted on the 911 Sports Classic, with perhaps a few enhancements included in it. It would most probably be a rear driven car as well. Performance antics would however be typically Porsche: with the car doing the 0 to 60 mph pick up in 4.5 seconds flat with a top speed of 190 kmph. This would be possible however depending on the top being off as it happens in case of the Boxster Spyder which does 166 mph with top off and 124 mph with top on. The drop in the top speed figures can be attributed to the cars lightweight, minimalist build.
Porsche has always been known for its exorbitant pricing standards, the Sport Classic comes at $240,000 for example. For this very reason and also as Porsche is coming out with, limited numbers of this car, seeing these cars on the street would be a rare sight indeed. But for that to happen, Porsche will have to build the car in the first place.
