New Hybrid Hyundai

by Will Parker

Hyundai Motor plans to introduce a new hybrid electric vehicle on a dedicated platform, similar to Toyota with the Prius, in 2012, followed by a plug-in hybrid version in 2013. Both hybrids will be fitted with a lithium-polymer battery pack.

The Korean automaker also plans to offer a larger, more powerful version of the Tau gasoline direct-injection V8 in the new Equus and the face-lifted 2012 Genesis sedan, coupled with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The 5.0-liter GDI engine makes 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. There are no immediate plans to offer the big V8 in the Genesis coupe.
