New Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG

by Alex

The next-generation CLS63 AMG sports sedan from Mercedes-Benz is there at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show being held from November 19-28 for public consumption. The company has also mentioned that they would be announcing their F-CELL car which is a fuel cell-powered car for the US market soon.

The 2011 CLS63 AMG would be fitted with a new 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and matched to a MCT (multi-clutch technology) transmission. This car is based on the second generation of Merc’s so-called “four-door coupe”. The engine is capable of developing 518 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The company is offering a package as an option that would help boost the power to 550 hp and 590 lb ft torque.

The car generates power based on the B-Class power generation technology used in the auto field. In this method, hydrogen and air react without combustion in the fuel cell, producing current to run the 136-horsepower electric motor. There is also a 35-kilowatt lithium-ion battery pack that stores the energy that is generated from braking.

The hydrogen gas is stored in tanks of 10,150 psi and this can be refueled in three minutes time. The range that the car gets from this is 230 miles.

The company is going to offer the car through lease program being specially created for this car in Southern California. There is also a program by which the number of hydrogen refueling stations is also increasing.
