New York State Police are warning residents of a used car scams.
State police talked about multiple situations where people answer online ads to purchase used cars from private sellers.
There are usually two people during the transactions that want to take the automobiles for test drives.
According to police, at some point, the suspects ask the vehicle owner to step out, pretending they have heard a weird sound or think something is wrong with the vehicle.
Once the owner steps out of the vehicle, the suspect drives off, drops the other person off to pick up the car they arrived in, and flee from the area.
Until now, police say the scams occurred in Livingston, Wayne, Monroe, and other counties in the region.
State Police urge citizens to be careful with transactions related to used cars. If you are selling your car, then make sure to have one more person with you for protection.
