London Taxi Company’s all-new electric black cab turns moves in the Big Apple with a Times Square billboard with pictures of it on its way extreme testing in the Arctic Circle – belonging to the most comprehensive testing programme in the company’s 98 year history.
London Taxi Company CEO Chris Gubbey, stated: “Seeing these extremes of testing – which we will finish in both hot and cold climates – we demonstrate that our new zero-emissions-capable automobile will be a taxi for London and the world over, capable and at home in any place.”
Previously, testing was underway in the lower reaches of the Arctic Circle in Norway. Testing the automobile in a real life environment of -15°C assists LTC make sure that the battery and range of the automobile are not disproportionately impacted by cold weather.
On sale in the final quarter of this year, LTC’s new electric taxi will be the most inclusively tested and developed object in the company’s history, as Quality Director Wolfram Liedtke says:
“Our new taxi is being established with two key engineering principles – quality and endurance to satisfy the needs of the demanding taxi duty cycle. We are now close to the end of our development programme, and will soon commit the product to series production at our new manufacturing facility in Ansty, near Coventry.
“We know drivers will want to be sure that our range extended electric vehicle technology operations in all conditions which is why we’ve gone to such efforts to test in these extreme environments. It will be, without doubt, the highest quality and resilient product in London Taxi’s history.”
Wolfram brings to the London Taxi Company great experience having operated manufacturing plants throughout Europe during his career which is made up of 10 years as Executive Director for Quality at General Motors Europe and 4 years as Quality Director for premium automaker Jaguar Land Rover.
