One dead, four injured as car, SUV crashes in Sherwood Park

A single person was killed and 4 others injured early Thursday in an accident at the intersection of Baseline Road and Brower Drive in Sherwood Park.

RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services reacted to the accident at 4:50 a.m.

RCMP stated it appears an SUV was taking a trip to west on Baseline Road when an automobile travelling north on Glenbrook Blvd, which ends up being Brower Drive, went through the intersection against a flashing red light.

The passenger vehicle was struck by the SUV. One of three travelers in the automobile died at the scene. 2 other passengers were transported to hospital with severe injuries.

The automobile’s driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV got minor injuries and was treated on the spot. An RCMP collision expert is on scene and the investigation is continuing.

Roadway conditions and visibility were excellent at the time of the accident. Traffic is being diverted near the scene.
