In a few months from now the 2011 Porsche Garrera Cup GB Championship is scheduled to be held. And what makes this year’s edition of the race so much more interesting is the fact that this year’s racer – the new 911 GT3 cup race car that is going to take part in this event is based on the 911 GT3 RS road car.
The car has a rear mounted 3.8 liter six cylinder engine that uses the horizontally opposed power technology and develops 450 hp. The car uses a sequential six speed manual gearbox system for transmission using limited slip differential technology. The power developed is 30 hp more than the previous model which is due to the engine that is used on the GT3 RS.
The engine weight fitted on the 911 GT3 cup is lesser by 170 kg than the engine fitted on the GT3 RS while the rest of the set up in near identical. The total weight of the GT3 Cup stands at 1200 kg which adds to the performance characteristics of the car.
Modifications have been carried out to the external of the 911 GT3 Cup in which the front spoiler lip has been lowered by 15 mm and the rear wing has been raised to 1.70 meter when compared to the GT3 RS. The raising of the rear wing has also made the car resemble the model that had raced in the FIA GT3 series. For rims there is the three piece light alloy ones which measure 9.5J x 18 while the previous model had it measure 9 J x 18. Tires are 24/64-18 Michelin racing tires and these have been housed in the front wheel arches which are flared and have been widened.
Starting price of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is 149,850 Euros which converts to $210,029 at the current rates.
