Auto lovers who are not interested in heritage or pedigree are the only ones who would go for the Cayenne and Panamera models from Porsche. Sales of Porsche in 2010 have actually gone up solely due to these two models. New models in this line up are therefore going to be injected by the German company. There is a long wheel base Panamera being contemplated by Porsche as per Autoweek. Sales of this model as per the magazine would be in 2012 for US and Chinese market.
There is also news that the wheelbase of the four door coupe model could be increased by 5 inches or 12.7 cm making it 120 inches in all that is 3.05 meter. The Mercedes-Benz-S-Class is a 124 inch or 13.5 wheel base models would therefore get a competitor from the Porsche model.
This increase in length would also cater for one of the present flaws in the Panamera that of restricted rear door access.
The convertible and shooting brake modifications to the Panamera body styles have been shelved for the time being as per reports.
One of the Porsche people who matter has mentioned, “We’ve decided to wait until the second-generation model before adding alternative body styles. We’re already flat-out meeting demand for a single body style as it is.”
