Porsche doing advanced research on electric sports cars, production likely in 2015

First it was the 918 Spider, a hybrid concept that Porsche stumped us with followed by the 911 GT3 R hybrid race car which also had a similar effect on us. As if that was not enough there are three more electric prototypes in the run and all of these from Porsche. This when people thought hybrids and EVs ought not to be for fun.

The fun would all convert into speed. Even though the three electric boxsters are yet in testing phase though the important data that is collected from these test vehicles would ensure that the all electric sports cars that are in the making from Porsche have everything desirable in standards and performance.

The main components that are being tested are the motors, controllers and such other components associated with the electric drive. Also being tested are the battery components. Macht the CEO of Porsche had this to say “We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche.”

Not much information is available now regarding the test vehicles. The test runs are scheduled in early 2011. The research and other associated works would start once the field tests are over. All this can be expected to happen only by 2015.
