The rumors that have circulated for some time have indicated it’s a possibility, but now it looks like Bentley’s CEO may have come clean with plans to do exactly that. According to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer admitted in an interview that Bentley is planning a competitor to the Land Rover, and, the Porsche Cayenne.
The CEO sees potential in the segment “terms of exclusivity and price.” The British brand wants to get into the SUV market, “because America is our largest individual markets, China and Europe, where SUVs are very popular.” According to the report, the new SUV will be added to the product lineup alongside introductions of new Mulsanne and Continental models, so an SUV that could revive the business in between.
This new Bentley SUV would be priced above either, at the top of the market. The decision to aim closer to the $100,000-mark could indicate a desire to increase Bentley’s overall sales volume while mainting its stratospheric reputation in the sedan and coupe market.
If we analyse the previous reports it would most likely be based on the same platform, though with unique modifications, as the Porsche Cayenne.
Some previous reports indicate the SUV could arrive at some point after 2013.
