This is the race vehicle of the future. It’s an autonomous car, constructed to be raced by just computers and was developed particularly with that in mind. Instead of retrofitting an existing race car chassis for use with driverless properties, the company provided its developers a blank slate and told them to construct the ultimate autonomous car.

Clearly, that’s what they created.

Roborace CEO Denis Sverdlov and designer automotive futurist Daniel Simon unveiled the car at Mobile World Congress 2017 in front of a big crowd of observers. The car was rapidly surrounded as everybody snapped photos.

If the future of Roborace is understood, race cars will zoom around the track without human drivers. Advanced systems will pilot the automobile around the track while prevent challenges and competitors.

Just recently the company finished its first race where 2 model Roborace automobiles fought it out on a closed loop of Buenos Aires’ streets. The race ended with an accident. And that’s just alright, Sverdlow said during the presentation, explaining that one of the purposes of Roborace is to provide a safe racing experience. No one was harmed throughout the crash as nobody remained in the automobiles.

The strategy is to build ten of these production cars and supply each team with identical hardware. It’s then depending on the coders to build the very best self-driving software stack rather than developing the best racing hardware. Sverdlow discussed that he desires the coders to be the stars of the show instead of race car motorists– a thought probably appreciated by software engineers.
