A Marine was alleged of causing a crash that killed two other Marines and injured over a dozen others on Wednesday when their military vehicle rolled over in North Carolina.
The driver, who is 19, was charged with one count of surpassing the speed limit and two counts of death by motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Their tactical vehicle, known as a 7-ton, had Marines from Camp Lejeune with them when it attempted to turn right onto a state road from U.S. Route 17.
The vehicle was then overturned, and it ejected 17 passengers.
A second military vehicle couldn’t stop before it hit one of the passengers.
The highway patrol said the driver was accelerating too fast for the turn.
Two Marines were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their identities are withheld pending notification to their families.
Fifteen others were admitted to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.
The two others were flown to a medical center in Wilmington, North Carolina.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
