Smart ForTwo is unquestionably a very unique vehicle with a unique customer base as well. Now, reports have emerged online indicating that an open top variant of the aforementioned vehicle model is about to come soon. In fact, according to reports, the cabriolet variant of the vehicle will make its debut no later than this year.
Dubbed the Smart ForTwo Cabrio, the vehicle will borrow plenty of its visual styling cues from the regular variant. In addition to that, the Auto Motor und Sport reports that the vehicle will come with a very strong carbio’s tridion safety cell. As a result, unlike before, the vehicle will no longer need a support brace to be installed at locations hidden from the passengers. Even though this may sound like quite a minor change, it will ultimately influence the appearance of the vehicle, especially whenever the owner decides to let the roof go down.
Although exact details have yet to be confirmed, the Smart ForTwo Cabrio is most likely to offer a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine capable of either 60 or 70 PS of peak power output. For an alternative, it is believed that a 0.9L engine with turbocharger will also be available. The latter will most likely boast a peak power output of 90 PS in addition to a peak torque output of 135 Nm.
If everything goes as planned, keen buyers of the vehicle will be able to expect the Smart ForTwo Cabrio to eventually become available for sale by the year 2016. According to reports, the vehicle model in question is most likely to come with an asking price of around 14 thousand Euros, at least according to the Auto Motor und Sport, which is a German magazine and the Smart also comes from Germany. So, it is safe to say that the reports should be quite accurate.
