The Spark-Renault SRT_01E which is fully electric and single seater that will compete in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship was unveiled at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
Designed and built by Spark Racing Technology (also called as SRT), the SRT_01E comes with a monocoque chassis that is produced by Dallara from carbon fiber and aluminum which complies with the 2014 FIA crash tests. McLaren Electronics Systems is in charge of providing the electric motor, gearbox and electronics, whereas Williams Advanced Engineering has been assigned the job of design, battery supply and battery management system.
The electric race car generates an output of 268 hp (200 kW) and comes fitted with custom 18-inch treaded tires developed by Michelin which will be used for both dry as well as wet conditions. Renault has been given the responsibility of seeing that all the parts are put together properly, and also dealing with performance optimization and powertrain electrical safety.
All 10 teams and 20 drivers will use it to compete next year in the Formula E Championship. This will be applicable only for the inaugural season as Formula E wants to be an open championship which would encourage car makers to make their own electric racer cars.
