Spy Video: Up Close and personal with the 2011 BMW X3

by Ron Grant

A great two and a half minute spy video of the 2011 BMW X3 surfaced on YouTube taken just 5 kilometers near the headquarters of BMW in Munich. The X3 being facelifted is still under heavy camouflage but the shot was so near that you will see the new elements of the X3.

The front-end of the new X3 looks more aggressive with the sportier three-section bumper with splitter. The headlight of the 2011 X3 lets go of the pointy lines and makes use of a rounded edge keeping it off the side panels less than the 2010 release. The front is not that slanted putting it side by side the current BMW X3 but you can say it is shaped more like a pug nose.

The body also looks rounder up close compared to its older sibling. This ride will be bigger and somehow it can easily be distinct from the X1. The last few seconds also give you a glimpse of the rear lights of the vehicle.

The next X3 seems to be ready to hit the production line and most likely it will debut at the Paris Motor Show this coming September. It might have diesel options and engine output may range from 177 horsepower through 300 hp, and 3.0L inline-six petrol powerplants. One of the variants will have a turbocharger.

The new X3 is expected to meet head on with the XC60 of Volvo, Audi Q5, and maybe the upcoming LRX of Land Rover.
