Upcoming VW Touareg R to be powered by the same V8 engine as the upcoming Audi S8

by Alex

Geneva Motor Show held this March had the entry of the 2011 Volkswagen Touareg in its debut appearance. The car was shown in both its diesel as well as petrol versions. In addition the hybrid version of the car was also put up on display. There has been quite a lot of talk generated thereafter about the sporty version of the Touareg.

Sources adept about rumors and news about the Volkswagen and their products have confirmed that there indeed is a Touareg which is named Touareg R which happens to be the sports version of the SUV though at the moment its confined to the drawing board stages.

The car is expected to have under its hood a V8 engine that is good enough for a power output of 500 hp and will replace the older generation W12 engine that could produce a max power output of 450 horses. This means the Touareg would have the same engine as that installed on the Audi S6, S7 and S8.

French sources further mention the Touareg R to have a V6 engine along with two electric motors installed but chances of it being the likely source of power for the hybrid version seems negated as of now if some reliable rumors regarding the Volkswagen is to be believed.

It is hoped that the car should be on display at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show scheduled next January.
