The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) restated its call to all automobile rental business in the city to have their own space or garage to park their vehicles so as not to occupy slots assigned for public usage.
The RTA has also revealed brand-new stipulations for providing permits to those who want to take part in vehicle rental activities in Dubai as part of its undertaking to streamline business sector.
“Anybody who wants to enter the car rental business ought to have at least 10 vehicles to be registered,” Nasir Al Haj, director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA’s Licensing Agency, informed Khaleej Times in a phone interview. “Then they must show us an evidence that they have a space to park their cars because we don’t want them to utilize slots allocated for the public or in their community.”
“The company is required to provide a minimum of 10 cars during the initial year at the main office and three vehicles in each branch. In case an entity owns automobiles exceeding Dh600,000 in worth, the business shall have at least five lorries,” Al Haj discussed.
For new companies, Al Haj added: “The revised conditions specify that the automobile rental office needs to be authorized by the Department of Economic Advancement (DED) and adhere to the relevant treatments set by the DED.”
“The automobile rental office shall submit a list of disowning the automobiles in case of eliminating the license. In case of giving up the license, the company will send an evidence of owning the minimum number of automobiles in the traffic folder before relinquishment. The manufacturing year of the used vehicle shall correspond to the same year of getting registration,” Al Haj highlighted.
Al Haj clarified that the parking requirement is an old policy. “However we are discussing it again and again due to the fact that they (vehicle rental companies) can not utilize public area. They should at least have a small garage to park their vehicles,” he said.
Failure to supply their own parking space can be a ground for withdrawing the company trade license, Al Haj mentioned.
