Volkswagen’s joint venture with China’s Anhui Jianghuai (JAC) prepares to spend 5.06 billion yuan ($750.8 million) in a new electric car factory located in eastern Hefei city, according to local officials.

A document published online by the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area on Monday revealed that Volkswagen and JAC had obtained approval from environmental officials to build a plant capable of producing 100,000 all-electric battery cars annually.

Volkswagen Group China on Thursday verified the numbers that had been included in earlier official documents and stated JAC-Volkswagen would introduce its first model soon.

A spokesperson for the joint venture verified strategies for the plant, saying the approval represented an “orderly advancement of the project”, and the venture’s first electric model, the E20X, will be introduced this year.
