Volkswagen resumes production in its Changchun plants

Volkswagen Group China on Monday said its factories in the northeastern Chinese city of Changchun have gradually restarted production as the city eases movement restrictions imposed for curbing Covid-19 cases.

These sites are operated through a joint venture with China’s FAW Group,

The automaker said it was still studying the feasibility of restarting production at its plant in Shanghai, which it operates through a joint venture with SAIC Motor.

SAIC Motor said earlier on Sunday it was carrying out stress tests in lieu of resuming operation at its factories in the locked-down city.

About 182,293 people in China, have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 4,638 people in the country. Although these figures are heavily disputed and experts say the government has deliberately under-reported the figures.
