The major plant of Volkswagen’s Spanish unit Seat in Martorell near Barcelona will stop operations on Monday for an unknown period of time because of logistical problems associated with the coronavirus epidemic, a company spokesman stated on Friday.

Matias Carnero, a union leader at SEAT, informed Reuters the stoppage could last up to six weeks, but the spokesman added that its length was yet to be defined. He said 7,000 employees would be affected by the stoppage.

Coronavirus has so far infected more than 145,810 people and killed more than 5,436 people worldwide. In Spain, it has killed 133 and infected 5,232 people.
