Volvo & Loose Gearshifts

by Will Parker

Due to the potential of loose gearshift assemblies, Volvo is recalling the 2010-11 C30, 2010 V50, and the 2010 S40. The only models that may be affected are those with the six-speed manual transmission. The recall is believed to be limited to only 536 cars in total.

According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Administration), the gearshift lever stud assembly may not have been properly tightened during assembly. This can result in severe crashes or problems if the lever cable and or stud were to become loose. The driver would be unable to disengage or engage gears. Although this is believed to be a severe risk, there are no up to date crashes.
