XCAR has recently released a new video clip which records the history of BMW’s iconic roadsters.
Starting with 1930’s, BMW had introduced the 3151 and 3191. These roadsters would eventually give way to the 1937 307 which came with a 2.0-liter straight-six engine that enabled the model to hit a top speed in excess of 75 mph (120 kmph).
Thereafter came the 328 which was the first BMW roadster to be built on a custom platform. Designed for racing duty, the 328 featured a 2.0-liter straight-six engine rated at 79 HP (58 kW) which enabled it to achieve a top speed of 93 mph (149 kmph). The top speed may not sound very impressive if we compare with what we get to see today but it allowed the model to take class wins at Le Mans and the Mille Miglia at that time.
There were some brakes put at the time of Second World War but by 1957 BMW introduced the iconic 507. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful roadsters ever made, the 507 featured a 3.2-liter V8 engine outputting 150 HP (110 kW) and could hit a top speed of roughly 122 mph (196 kmph). It enabled the model to achieve the 0-100 kmph sprint in a little over 11 seconds.
