2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG spotted for the first time

by Alex

2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMGMercedes has been testing next generation CLS for close to a year. Here we have the first spy photos of the top of the range AMG version that will come with the 6.2-liter V8 producing around 525 horsepower.

Even though the prototype is disguised with bulky plastic body panels it is evident the overall shape won’t differ much from the current model.

Current first generation CLS was introduced in 2004, its 2+2 seating and sporty coupe like design started a new trend in luxury cars. By the time next generation CLS arrives it will go against Aston Martin Rapide, Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera.

Sales are expected to start in late 2010 or beginning of 2011. Base models will very likely get a 3.5-liter V6 with 292 hp, 5.5-liter V8 with 388 hp and a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel producing around 231 hp.

Later on we should also see a hybrid version combining a 3.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor with a total output of 299 hp.

Great way to hide an “Erlkönig” (as we call it in Germany). Never seen that technique before! 🙂
