It just seems like yesterday when Ferrari launched the 612 Scaglietti as a successor to the smaller 456 M. It was a grand tour vehicle with a convenient two-door fast back coupe. It was larger in size, a 4-seater with adequate rear space for adults. It was a concept car developed by the famous Ital design – Giugiaro S.P.A design studio. But, the 612 Scaglietti has the most out-dated design as compared to the rest of the Ferrari’s. The design is supposed to pay homage to the custom made Ferrari 375 MM. The 612 is Ferrari’s second all aluminum vehicle, after the 360 Mondena which is its first. It shares its engine with Ferrari 575 M Maranello. It has a six speed manual or the six speed automatic paddle shift system.
Now, Ferrari is coming up with a successor to the Scalgetti. The new Ferrari was spotted by spy photographers, cold weather testing near the Arctic Circle. It seemed to have a longer wheel base and a massive hood bulge. Its front and rear fascias seem to have been redesigned completely.
The new Ferrari is expected to have the latest technology of Enzo derived V12. This will ensure that the Ferrari produces around 530 horsepower with 430 pound-feet of torque. .It is aimed at being 40 percent more efficient than its predecessor, with a fuel economy of 19mpg as compared to 11.5 mpg in its predecessor, and 40 percent less polluting with 40 percent better gas mileage. Its fuel economy is expected to increase. It will feature a lot of modifications, including a gasoline hybrid technology currently used in Formula one race cars. It also could feature a brand new V-12 power plant. The engine will be coupled with a 7-speed dual clutch gear box. It is speculated that it will reach 0 to 100km/hr in less than four seconds and will be able to reach speed of more than 320km/hr.
The actual prototype of the Scaglietti successor was expected to start testing by the second half of this year. And the successor to the Scaglietti is scheduled to come out in the summer of 2011, with the model being unveiled next March in the Geneva Motor Show. The sales will begin in the summer of 2011 and the price is estimated to be around 300,000 Euros as a starting point and would change later according to the sales.
