2014 Mercedes-Benz XL spied as a plug-in hybrid

by SpeedLux

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class XL has been spied for the first time in the plug-in hybrid guise.

Though the spy photographer claims that the car in the pics is the Maybach-replacing Pullman version, we believe that this is the extra-long wheelbase S-Class which will be positioned above the current long-wheelbase model and below the Pullman. The prototype spotted had a plug-in hybrid arrangement and we believe that it’s the one taken from the 2014 S500 Plug-In Hybrid.

Talking about engine, we can expect a V6 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline mill rates at 328 hp (245 kW) and an electric motor providing 107 hp (80 kW). This will enable the car to probably complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) run in around 5.5 seconds and would be able to hit a top speed of 155 mph (250 kmph). In terms of efficiency, the 2014 S-Class XL plug-in hybrid to return 78.4 mpg US (94.1 mpg UK or 3 liters / 100 km) and will be able to cover an all-electric range of up to 18.6 miles (30 km).

Yet to be confirmed but we believe that the car will probably go on sale sometime next year together with the conventional-powered S-Class extra-long wheelbase.
