An 80-year-old person with Alzheimer’s, who shot to popularity when his son posted videos of him singing in the automobile, has actually landed a great record deal.

Ted McDermott has been signed up by Decca Records as “carpool karaoke” videos went viral, receiving over 40 million views.

His son, Simon, discovered that singing in the car, while he drove his dad around Blackburn, assisted the pensioner deal his Alzheimer’s disease.

He published the videos online to increase awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society, and raised ₤ 114,000 while doing so.

McDermott, who has difficulty recognizing his own son after being identified with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2013, is able to remember the words to a number of songs.

A Decca A&R executive welcomed the 80-year-old to plan a recording session after coming across his voice online.

Decca executive producer Alexander Van Ingen stated: “Teddy’s voice is truly amazing for any singer, let alone one 80 years of age.”

“It’s a fascinating noise, and filled with character and experience; in it you can hear the worldly understanding of a lifetime.”
