In spite of its eco-friendly nature, attractive design and luxurious comfort, the ELR Coupe from Cadillac is not a popularly chosen vehicle among car buyers in the world. Taking that into account, it is only natural for the company to rethink its vehicle and that is just what the company has done. The luxury US automaker has officially taken the veil off a new version of the vehicle for model year 2016. This one comes with a wide array of upgrades.
To begin with, the car now features a bigger lithium-ion battery than that of the outgoing model. Whereas the outgoing model has a battery with a total capacity of 16.5 kWh, the new luxury coupe from the American company has a total battery capacity of 17.1 kWh. Yet, ironically, despite using a bigger capacity battery, the car now has less total distance range it can reach. On a single charge, the car is now able to reach only 530 km, compared to 547 km on the previous model.
The power output, however, has been increased by up to 25%. The car now delivers 233 bhp of power and 506 Nm of torque. This enables the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, 1.6 seconds quicker than the predecessor. The car has a top speed of 170 km/h. Yet, for customers purchasing the Performance Package (optional), they will enjoy a top speed of 209 km/h.
The 2016 model year ELR Coupe from Cadillac also sports a redesigned front grille, increased spring rates at the front end, stiffer axle at the rear end, a front bumper rebound spring, stiffer bushings and enhanced HiPer Strut suspension for the front tires. On the interior, customers will find a configurable instrument panel with an 8-inch display panel, cup holder and storage on the center console, semi-aniline full leather seats and three USB ports, among other stuffs.
The 2016 Cadillac ELR Coupe will expectedly come at a lower price compared to its predecessor. While the model previously cost $67,500, the new one comes with a sticker price of $58,495.
