There has been a report coming from a British media that indicates the automaker Skoda is currently hard at work preparing a crossover model. It is believed that the crossover will have its design based on the company’s Fabia model and that the crossover will be making its global debut come the year 2017.
When it comes to the Skoda Fabia, the previous generation variant of the model was treated with a somewhat more rugged Scout variant. It took the wagon variant as its base and it had tweaked suspension in addition to plastic body cladding. Now, it is reported that a crossover version is in the works. However, it won’t be wise for customers to expect a new, all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain. The crossover will reportedly retain the front-wheel-drive (FWD) drivetrain of the model instead. The upcoming crossover will also be making use of the MQB platform.
As far as its visual styling is concerned, the crossover will have a lot of elements that may well remind buyers of the crossover from the German automaker, Volkswagen, that never makes it to the market. This crossover is based on the German marquee’s Polo model but for some reasons, the company never releases it to the market. With that being said, the upcoming crossover from Skoda should have such elements as higher ride height – which enables the car to go off-road, skid plates on the front and rear ends of the vehicle and also plastic body cladding that can be seen on the bumpers and wheel arches.
When it comes to performance, the Skoda Fabia-based crossover will allegedly count on two engine lineups. First of all, there is the 1.2 TSI engine that churns out 110 PS of power output. Then, in the second place, there is the 1.4 TDI engine that delivers 105 PS of power output in total.
