Lotus Evora enhanced further

by Alex

Lotus has gone full steam ahead in its endeavor to bridge the gap between its current car and the new models that it plans to bring out in 2013. For this they have worked high speed on the Evora in its revised format. This, the company hopes would also boost its current sluggish sales.

The Evora is slated for launch by end of this year as a 2012 model. A grainy picture of the car has been leaked and this depicts the aggressive radiator design of the car. This is quite similar to what the later models of Lotus line is expected to take and framed by the late design boss of Lotus, Donato Coco.

As per Coco the present Evora’s mouth design required a change as it did not portray an aggressive look. As per him there are many other economy cars even that give a more aggressive look. The present design of the mouth has been coming down since the 1960’s when the first Lotus 18 single seater had been launched.

There is a revision of the interior get up in the 2012 Evora. The standard equipments are of a much higher level and the quality of the finish has also been improved upon.

Starting price of the Evora is £51,030 which is for the 276 bhp two-seat version. Sales though were not up to the mark and continued to be sluggish till the 345 bhp Evora S model was launched last year at a price of £60,000. This model uses a supercharged version of the standard car’s 276 bhp Toyota-derived V6.

There are plans afoot at Lotus to build their own V6 and V8 modular engines for their future products as there have been uncertain reactions to their proposal of using Toyota engines for the Lotus models in the upmarket sector.

Lotus CEO, Dany Bahar adds that as they have been building engines for their clients so there should be no harm in making it for their own use as well. Financial aspects would be the deciding factor for finalizing this decision.
