Following the CR-V and the CR-Z, the Asian car maker Honda is voluntarily recalling more than 300,000 Honda Pilots. The purpose is to replace the driver’s and passenger’s front seatbelts because at issue is a manufacturing defect that can cause the seatbelts to unravel in a crash.
According to the Japanese manufacturer, the 310,773 Pilots affected by the recall are all from the current generation, manufactured from 2009 through 2011. It seems that a defect in manufacturing process left a few sets of seat belts with inadequate or even missing stitching at a critical anchor for the belt. Considering that is really weakened, the belt could rip apart in a crash and this can cost you life.
However, Honda says that no injuries or deaths have been reported. The Japanese company will begin notifying customers in the beginning of October, 2011.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda.
