Two latest projects from the BMW stable are the 2011 X3 and the 6 Series concept which is a next generation genre model. The X3 is a continuation of the outgoing X3 which belonged to the SUV segment with some upgrades to it. The concept car on the other hand comes in with not much of a change from its previous version which had been inspired by the company’s experience of building such sporty and elegant cars for the past seventy years. The difference between the X3 and X5 as far as looks go are extremely minimal and therefore chance of a mix up is possible. It is just the extra curves that are present in the character lines that differentiate the two. A difference in window shape is the other factor of distinction between the two. Designers at BMW have placed more emphasis on the interior of the new X3 than the exterior.
There is the electronic shifter which brings the car up to current BMW standards. There is also the asymmetric center console and cleaner horizontal lines as upgrades to the X3. The model has the 3.0 liter engine which has inline six-cylinder unit and is naturally aspirated. The N52 engine delivers 240hp and 230 pound-feet of torque due to both variable valve timing and lift. There is also the option of going for the more powerful xDrive35i that comes with BMW’s new single-turbo inline six-cylinder, the N55.
The N55 delivers 300 hp and 300 pound-feet of torque enabling the car to speed up from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The Concept 6 has a chance of appealing to the consumers but the car is not set for production as of now. The previous 6 is yet in the market and not aged and eased off to call for a replacement. The classic lines and the elegance that it exudes make the Concept an attractive piece. The car also has a long hood and low stance which gives it a sporting appearance. The interior of the car has been done up neatly to give a comfortable drive on long tours also. The car has been unveiled at the Paris Auto Show.
