The eagerly awaited production version from Toyota named the FT-86 Concept was ready to delight us when the manufacturers from Japan have come up with another surprising piece of news announcing another brand new version of the concept car. We hope this is for real. If so we are in for something big.
This is great news for all of us as the news is for real as the Japanese company will be indeed producing the 2nd edition concept of the FT 86, named the FT 86 II. The concept will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. They have also released the first set of teaser images of the car, although no other details or specs about the car are unavailable at this very moment. But what’s unfortunate for us all is that after waiting such a long time we missed out on the FT 86. Now we won’t be able to compare the 86 with the FT 86 II. Neither will we realize whether there are any major differences between the two. We do believe we can appreciate something better having a taste of the good one. Now if the FT 86 II is something similar to the original version we are expecting a compact version of the sports concept car with a rear wheel drive having a 2.0 Liter horizontally opposed, naturally aspirated four cylinder gasoline burning engine under the hood. This engine is to be supplied to the car by Subaru. Subaru and Toyota will both be coming up with the concepts with the same engines but the cars will have their individual styling with accordance to their respective makers.
Coming to Subaru, what is impressive about them is that they have not backed off from the original version and the Geneva Motor Show will feature the FT 86 edition of Subaru. Now what will be interesting to see is whether Toyota have decided on the second edition of their FT 86 to fend off a steep challenge from Subaru. This will be an interesting face off and we eagerly wait for March to come. We will keep you updated on the proceedings on how well both the companies will live up to their expectations.
