Fisker is a small company founded by a former Aston Martin Designer – Henrik Fisker. Although their Karma EcoChic is interesting enough, there are plenty of other hot hybrid cars with more pedigree, more performance and for less money.
The 2012 Fisker Karma EcoChic is powered by a gasoline engine and two electric motors. The gasoline engine is a 260-horsepower 2.0-liter GM Ecotec turbo four cyilinder. The car can run solely on battery for about 30 to 45 miles, after which the gasoline engine starts to recharge the batteries, while supplying the car with the necessary power. The engine also kicks in when the drivers needs to go faster than the electric motor can do. The batteries have a brake recharge function (they recharge when the brakes are activated).
The Karma EcoChic takes 6.1 seconds to accelerate to 60, and the top speed is electronically limited to 125mph.
The exterior design looks great – as one would expect from a car company founded by a designer. It’s aerodynamic, aggressive and futuristic.
Although it’s a hybrid vehicle, the fuel economy isn’t as good as was expected. It scores about 28mpg, which is topped by many all-gasoline cars (so that’s a major minus for the Fisker Karma EcoChic).
The interior features heated seats, a 10.2 inch touch screen and steering wheel paddles.
The price starts at $103,000, but as I said before, this car just isn’t worth it. There are plenty other Hybrids with better performance, and even non-hybrids with better fuel economy, for a lot less money out there, so you should think twice before you decide to spend over 100 grand on this car.
