Up until not so long ago, the only major luxury vehicles were Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and other German manufacturers. That’s until Asian ones like the Acura, Infinity, Lexus, Toyota or Hyundai made themselves a way into this segment of the market.
The new 2012 Hyundai Azera is powered by a 3.3-liter V6 (0.3 liter smaller than the one in the old model), and delivers 293 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic that is expertly built, as it shifts gears exactly when needed, and without any disturbance. The drivetrain is a front wheel drive, and while some of us aren’t that impressed about these kinds of vehicles, the new Azera promises to change that impression.
The curb weight has been reduced to 3,605 lbs., 400 lbs. lighter than some of the other cars in this segment.
The interior space for the front passengers is bigger than the one the correspondent cars from other manufacturers get. The rear passengers, though, get a somewhat cramped space. There are three passenger’s seats in the back.
The fuel consumption has also been improved in comparison with the previous model (by 1 mpg), and now stands at 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The exterior design borrows the LED taillight from some of Chevrolet’s recent models, and is thus as long as the whole width of the rear. The headlights also get LED technology and fog lamps. Standard wheels are 18-inchers, but 19-inch rollers can be installed as an option.
The pricing starts from $32,000, and this is quite a bit more expensive than other cars in this segments of the market (as much as 10 grand).
