The ‘go ahead’ signal has been given for the production of the Porsche 918 Spyder. Not only this but there is more good news emanating from the Porsche stable as there is also news of the company also having given the green signal for the production of the Cayman CS also called the Club Sport. We could therefore expect to see this car at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The car would go on sale next year where it will be pitched as a 2012 model year car and would incorporate a number of weight saving measures like the use of light weight components like it will be fitted with door pulls made of fabric while the wheels too would be of a unique design made of lightweight material. The overall car design would be in line with the Boxster Spyder and the wheels in particular would be in line with the design seen on the GT2 RS.
The engine is expected to be a 3.4 liter delivering 333 hp of power given the records of previous similar models of the company.
Coming to the suspension system of the car, it will be the new Sport PASM suspension that the car will be equipped with which is lower by 20 mm compared to the standard version. Doors made of aluminum, a lightweight hatch, lighter sport bucket seats, and fabric door pulls would also be found. Further adding to the driving pleasure will be the revalved steering assist system, rear diffuser of a newer version and the rear spoiler of the ducktail style which borrows its style cues from the 911 Sport Classic. There would be optional fit of A/C and stereo as well as the ‘Track Pack’ as a further optional add on. The Europe version of the car would have the fire extinguisher also fitted along with harness and fittings.
The wheels would be 19 inch by size and the performance is expected to be 4.6 seconds for accelerating from 0 to 62 mph. Price of the car has been estimated to start at $66,330.
