2014 Ford Mustang will get a fresh, non-retro design

by Mike David

Ford is preparing a surprise for Mustang’s 50th anniversary. There was another report earlier this week that said the Stang will go through a full revamp for the 2014 model. The 2014 Ford Mustang is internally referred as the Mustang III. Last time Ford named a car in a similar way (Mustang II), we all know how it turned out. This time we will get something better though.

Jay Mays, Ford’s design chief, gave out more details about the 2014 Ford Mustang.

When asked in an interview at the Frankfurt Motor Show if the 2014 model will be an evolution of today’s retro look, he replied “No way”. He said about 2005 and 2010 redesigns that “Both of those cars everybody would say, ‘they are retro vehicles.’”

He also said “The challenge or the opportunity for 2014 with a 50th anniversary car is to not just look back over your shoulder, but to try to win all of the Mustang faithful yet bring the brand forward as well”.

Then he added “It has to look like a Mustang. But you go down a list of things that might or might not be necessary to make the car look like a Mustang.”

So, we will have a non-retro design, a modern one. Ford hopes this will open the doors to a whole new group of buyers.

If this is the 2014 Mustang, I want 2 of them. Great shape, front and rear. WOW!
