2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-In Hybrid revealed before Frankfurt debut

Mercedes has quietly introduced the 2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid at a recently conducted small press briefing.

The company hasn’t released any official information about the model but Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog went to the event and managed to obtain some new details about the upcoming model which will be introduced at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show to be held in September.

According to the blog site, the model comes fitted with a six-cylinder petrol engine that generates 333 HP (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. It is backed up by an electric motor which is powered by a trunk-mounted 8.7 kWh battery. The engine allegedly powers the rear wheels, while the electric motor does the motivation for the front wheels.

This setup would enable 2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid to travel at least 30 km (18.6 miles) on just electricity. If that was not enough, the model will be a 3-liter car which would return 78.4 mpg US / 94.1 mpg UK and have CO2 emissions of less than 75 g/km.

We will have to wait till official announcement happens and will surely keep you posted on the details as and when they are revealed.
