BMW Brilliance Auto (BBA), the joint venture company formed by Brilliance China Automotive holdings (CBA) and German Luxury carmaker BMW have embarked upon constructing a second factory in China.
Shenyang, the capital city of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province is where the factory is to be located and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 units. This would be added up to a total capacity of 140,000 units. The estimated cost of building the factory is 5 billion Yuan (73.53 million US dollars) and is likely to be completed by 2012, as per chairman of BMW Group Mr. Norbert Reithofer. Each of the shareholders is bearing 50% cost of total investment for this joint venture. The Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone is the particular area is where the factory is being sited. It would be producing the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series and for which the company plans to recruit over 1,000 workers. In 2009 the sales of BMW in China had climbed by 38% with 90,000 units. China forms the third largest market of BMW worldwide.
