More than 400 units of the battery-powered Tesla Roadsters are being called back to the factory because of an increasing risk of fire. The 109,000 dollar Roadster is based on a Lotus platform and is powered by a big battery. The Tesla crew admitted receiving some information about a car that caught on fire after a 12-volt cable broke.
Tesla said that the cable in the report supplies power to auxiliary systems such as lights, turn signals and airbags. Tesla plans to send its service teams on the field for the repair, which involves placing a protective sleeve over the cable to prevent it from shorting. Tesla stated that the total number of cars that need to be recalled is 439 Roadsters and that neither the battery pack, nor the power system are affected. This is the second recall for the Roadster after is was recalled in 2009 for a handling problem.
