When one looks back at the decade of 1980s, one is mesmerized by the thoughts of punk rock, shutter shades and of the Cadillac Cimarron. Along with these, the decade was a winner for great cars. The face of the automobile industry completely changed in this decade with contributions of great cars coming from all over the world.
Das Germans came up with the Porsche 959, the BMW E30 M3 and the AWD Audi Quattro. From the other European companies came the likes of Testarossa from Ferrari, the Lancia Delta Integrale rally champ and the car with dashing looks, Saab 900 Turbo.
Out there in the streets of US ran the 3rd generation cars of Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the classy C4 Corvette and the Buick Grand National, a car ideal for NASCAR. From the United Kingdom came the Aston Matin Lagonda Sports Saloon and though launched in the decade of 70s, it was high on sale in the 1980s as well. The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth took the world by surprise and the Irish set of wheels, Delorean DMC-12 made famous by Spielberg in ‘Back to the Future’.
We would not like to leave Japan out, who gave us the Toyota AE86, which was an absolute pleasure to drive.
Now is the real question, the tough one. Which one of all these would you call the ‘Best Car of 1980s’? Speak your heart out about these cars.
