The Ram 1500 will be first pickup truck to have a diesel engine, after Chrysler announced that it will have a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel unit as well.
It is anybody’s guess, since here the question is about the same 240 horsepower (420 lb-ft of torque) turbo diesel that’s was fitted into the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The engine is is likely to get the magical figure of 30 miles per gallon on the highway and can tow up to 7,400 lbs.
Chrysler planned to introduce a diesel engine for the 1500 after “customers have been eagerly craving for it”, said Ram CEO Fred Diaz. The company officials are hoping that the new EcoDiesel Ram 1500 will lead to improvement in annual sales with about 10,000 units, despite the fact that the option will be more expensive than the normal available package.
It is a bit premature to make any predictions, but one has to wait to see whether Ram’s new concept causes any stir in the rival camps to come with a similar concept in the pickup segment.
So its final that Ram is going diesel and let’s hope it does so and always stay ahead of its rival like ford and Chevrolet.
