Speaking honestly, the BMW Z4 is actually a very cool looking, highly capable sports car. Unfortunately, the car has not managed to make high sales volume during all its time, even until now. As a matter of fact, the luxury German automaker, BMW, has already even planned to replace the vehicle model in question with a newer model and this is very likely to happen before we reach the year 2020.
As reported by the Automotive News Europe, quoting Klaus Frohlich, who happens to be the head of development at the German company, during this year’s Geneva Motor Show event, the luxury brand from the German soils is actually more than happy to replace the company’s Z4 with a new model in a 5-years’ time. Frohlich also points out that BMW could even share the cost of developing the new model with the Japanese automaker, Toyota. After all, it is part of the agreement signed by both parties.
Perhaps the reason for the failure of the company’s Z4 is that the market segment available for a 2-seater roadster is shrinking by the day. In addition to that, China, which happens to be the world’s largest market when it comes to automobiles, does not seem to have real interest in enjoying what such a 2-seater roadster can actually offer in terms of performance, luxury and comfort. Keeping that in mind, BMW will not be focusing too much on the Z4 successor. After all, the sales of the Z4 also dropped last year, both in the US and European countries.
If the rumor mill proves to be accurate, the successor to the BMW Z4 will be known as the Z5. Coming as a result of collaboration between two companies, BMW and Toyota, the vehicle may well feature a carbon fiber tub, which can also be found on the German company’s i3 and i8 vehicle lineups. Unfortunately, it is rumored that the Z4 successor will be coming with a retractable soft instead of hard top. Both the Z5 variants from BMW and Toyota are expected to come out sometime around 2017.
