Ariel Atom’s Engine Catches Fire During Street Racing [Video]

As you knw already, street racing is not only illegal in some situations, but is also dangerous for the driver or for the spectators. Even if everybody knows this is still not enough to keep a lot of people to get a rush of compete for a title and to get some adrenaline in thei veins from engaging in “unnoficial motorsport”. Knowing all the dangers to that you are exposed when you go to a street race, you can expect many things to happen, but nothing can preapre you for a situation such as that in the video below.

An Ariel Atom took part in the “racing” event at the Västerås StreetRacing, in Sweden, but before it even left the line it ran into trouble. As you’ll see, it moved a little off the line when, in a few blinks of an eye, the engine catches fire.

Considering that the Atom has an open cockpit, this had to be really bad luck for the driver, this kind of car being one of the worst cars to be in when it catches fire.

However, despite the despite the unpredictable and unfriendly conditions, the fire was quicly put out and nobody was hurt.
