Audi has let it known their upcoming electric vehicle will be built at their Neckarsulm site. The R8 high performance sports car from Audi too had been conceptualized at their Neckarsulm site, which is also why they plan to produce their first electric vehicle at the same site. This is where Audi’s Quattro division is also located. The electric model that they plan to produce has been named the e-Tron.
The workers at the Neckarsulm site have had previous experience of building small cars and sports cars. This is the specific reason for selecting this site for making their electric vehicle e-Tron a reality, revealed Audi chairman of Board Mr. Rupert Stadler. This would also mean that this site would continue to be of importance for Audi in its manufacturing process, added Stadler. Audi also plans to launch some electric super car model in the later part of 2012. Most probably to be named as R4 these cars would be on the same lines of the three e-Tron models from Audi which they had launched at the Frankfurt Auto show last year.
The car is powered by four electric motors. In a true quarto style two motors would power the front and two at the rear. The motors have a 313 hp and 4500 Nm torque rating. This would make the car speed at 200 kmph or 124.27 mph with pick up of 0 – 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds flat. The battery pack allows 248 km or 154 miles of drive distance with recharging time being 6 to 8 hours from normal domestic supply. Pretty impressive figures these are indeed.
